Public Service Announcement
Monday July 1, 2024

The Sutter-Yuba Mosquito & Vector Control District reports that in an effort to reduce the risk of West Nile Virus in the Sutter-Yuba area, District personnel will begin ultra low volume spraying for Yuba County town areas in Marysville, Linda, Edgewater, Olivehurst, Plumas Lake, and Wheatland. Spraying will normally take place on Thursday mornings. Due to the 4th of July holiday commencing on Thursday this week, the Yuba County town areas will be sprayed tomorrow morning July 2nd. Sutter County town areas in Live Oak, Sutter, and Yuba City will be sprayed on Wednesday mornings. Spraying will be performed with pickup mounted foggers every week starting as early as 3:30 AM and continuing up to 6:30 AM. All applications are predicated on mosquito abundance, disease activity and favorable weather conditions. Additional urban areas or spray mornings may be added if disease detections become elevated. The spray program will be discontinued in the fall, when we observe a significant drop in the mosquito population and disease activity.

For the 2024 season, the District will be using permethrin. This material is registered by the Environmental Protection Agency and applied according to label directions by or under the supervision of the District’s trained and certified technicians. Although this material poses a low risk to human health, some people may prefer to avoid or minimize exposure by staying indoors, keeping their windows closed, and turning off their window –mounted air conditioners, evaporative coolers and whole house fans when spraying is taking place in the immediate area. You can obtain additional information about spray operations by calling the District office at 674-5456 ext. 0 between the hours of 7 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday thru Friday or by viewing our website at https://sutter-yubamvcd.org/. Residents can also sign-up for email, spray notifications by visiting the District’s website.
