First human local transmission case of Dengue in California- Pasadena, CA

The Pasadena Public Health Department reported on October 20, 2023 that a Pasadena, California resident with no travel history outside of the United States has acquired dengue. While this is the first case of human local transmission in California, dengue is rare in the U.S. Public health officials believe this is an isolated incident and there is a very low risk of additional dengue exposure in the area. Dengue is transmitted by Aedes aegypti (yellow fever mosquito) and Aedes albopictus (Asian tiger mosquito). Public Service Announcement Friday, August 18, 2023    Sutter County Public Health has confirmed three human cases of West Nile Virus (WNV) in Sutter County this year – two with severe illnesses and one with moderate illness. As of August 11, 2023, fourteen human WNV cases have been reported in California. WNV is active June through October. Swimming Pool Inspections Set to Begin

The Sutter-Yuba Mosquito & Vector Control District is beginning its 2023 green swimming pool inspection program. At each home where a green swimming pool or other potential mosquito breeding source has been detected, staff will make a visit to inspect and where necessary, treat a pool to prevent any further mosquito production. District staff will appear in uniform, and displaying a picture ID to ascertain whether a pool is producing mosquitoes. An unmaintained pool can produce as many as 100,000 mosquitoes over the season.
