Public Service Announcement Tuesday, July 23, 2024    Yuba County Public Health has confirmed the first human case of West Nile virus (WNV) in Yuba County this year. This is the first known West Nile Virus human case in California for the 2024 season. WNV is generally active June through October. People infected with WNV fall into three categories: • No symptoms/asymptomatic (8 in 10 people) • Mild to moderate fever illness with fatigue and body aches (1 in 5 people) • Severe illness with neurologic symptoms such as encephalitis or meningitis (less than 1 in 150 people). Public Service Announcement Tuesday July 2, 2024 The Sutter-Yuba Mosquito and Vector Control District has detected the first evidence of West Nile virus (WNV) in Yuba County in 2024. One mosquito sample collected on Tuesday, June 25th in the east Marysville area has tested positive for West Nile. Thus far, we have had no detections of WNV in dead birds, sentinel chicken flocks or humans in 2024. Hot daytime temperatures are hastening mosquito production, with traps showing an increase of this WNV vector for this time of year. Public Service Announcement Monday July 1, 2024 The Sutter-Yuba Mosquito & Vector Control District reports that in an effort to reduce the risk of West Nile Virus in the Sutter-Yuba area, District personnel will begin ultra low volume spraying for Yuba County town areas in Marysville, Linda, Edgewater, Olivehurst, Plumas Lake, and Wheatland. Spraying will normally take place on Thursday mornings. Due to the 4th of July holiday commencing on Thursday this week, the Yuba County town areas will be sprayed tomorrow morning July 2nd. First human local transmission case of Dengue in California- Pasadena, CA
The Pasadena Public Health Department reported on October 20, 2023 that a Pasadena, California resident with no travel history outside of the United States has acquired dengue. While this is the first case of human local transmission in California, dengue is rare in the U.S. Public health officials believe this is an isolated incident and there is a very low risk of additional dengue exposure in the area. Dengue is transmitted by Aedes aegypti (yellow fever mosquito) and Aedes albopictus (Asian tiger mosquito). Public Service Announcement  Friday, July 21st 2023 The Sutter-Yuba Mosquito and Vector Control District has detected more evidence of West Nile virus in Sutter and Yuba Counties in 2023.
