Mosquitoes that are active on warm winter days have awakened to obtain a bloodmeal. They can become quite annoying. This species of mosquito does not transmit West Nile Virus. Effectively controlling mosquitoes this time of year is virtually impossible. Spraying around an individual home will kill some of them, however, overnight more will move in and the problem will be just as bad. Mounting a larger campaign utilizing wide area fogging trucks is not effective as, unlike in the summer, mosquitoes retreat to secluded areas at sunset where mosquito sprays would be unable to reach them. Typically, wintertime mosquitoes are bothersome on warmer, sunny days from mid-January through early March each year.

Applying a repellant is the best way to prevent bites when you need to be outside and mosquitoes are active.
