West Nile virus detected in both Yuba and Sutter Counties

Detections of West Nile virus in collected mosquito samples and dead birds are indicating that the virus once again is impacting Sutter and Yuba Counties. West Nile virus has been picked up in both counties as each has had a dead bird come back positive in lab testing. Yuba County has had three collected mosquito samples return positive as well. West Nile virus is transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito. Residents should limit their exposure to biting mosquitoes by curtailing their outdoor activities at dawn and dusk, wearing long sleeves and long pants, keeping door and window screens in good repair and applying mosquito repellant.
