A surge of newly hatched mosquitoes in the Edgewater community has prompted the District to begin spraying on the morning of Thursday, June 12th beginning as early as 3:30 a.m. and ending by 6:00 a.m. For the 2025 season, the District will be using permethrin. This material is registered by the Environmental Protection Agency and applied according to label directions by or under the supervision of the District’s trained and certified technicians. Although this material poses a low risk to human health, some people may prefer to avoid or minimize exposure by staying indoors, keeping their windows closed, and turning off their window –mounted air conditioners, evaporative coolers and whole house fans when spraying is taking place in the immediate area.
