Beginning April 1, 2015 mosquitofish will be available for residents within the District free of charge Monday through Friday 7AM to 3PM. Mosquitofish are an excellent option for treating mosquito breeding sources around your home or ranch. Great places to use mosquitofish include unmaintained swimming pools and jacuzzis, backyard ornamental ponds, livestock watering troughs, and other containers. A small source of water can breed tens of thousands of mosquitoes over a season. Mosquitofish work non stop through the season consuming mosquito larvae for as long as there is water in the breeding source. Residents wanting to come in and pick up some mosquitofish should bring a small ice chest or clean bucket with a lid for transport.
