First Local Detection of West Nile virus

Results from a mosquito sample submitted for West Nile virus testing have come back positive. A mosquito collection made on June 15, 2015 in the District 10 area of Yuba County is the first locally detected activity of West Nile virus. Residents are encouraged to drain and dump any containers holding water in their yards, limit outdoor activity at dawn and dusk (peak mosquito biting time), apply mosquito repellant when mosquuitoes are biting and keep door and window screens in good repair.
