WEST NILE UPDATE 07/15/2022 Risk of West Nile virus continues to increase throughout Sutter county as more mosquitoes test positive for the virus. The District continues to fight the bite and treat both Sutter and Yuba County. We are asking our communities to partner with us by wearing EPA approved repellent when outdoors and mosquitoes are active, dump and drain any standing water around your property, report neglected swimming pools, wearing long sleeves/pants during dusk and dawn when mosquito activity is high, and staying informed by following our Facebook page, website, or signing up for our email notifications. Public Service Announcement   Tuesday June 28th, 2022    The Sutter-Yuba Mosquito & Vector Control District reports that in an effort to reduce risk of WNV in the Sutter-Yuba area, District personnel will begin ultra low volume spraying in the Wheatland, Plumas Lake, Olivehurst, Linda, East Marysville, south and west Yuba City, Live Oak, Sutter, and Tierra Buena areas. Spraying will normally take place on Thursday mornings. The first application of the season is scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 30th. Public Service Announcement 6-24-2022

Public Service Announcement  Friday, July 24th 2022 The Sutter-Yuba Mosquito and Vector Control District has detected the first evidence of West Nile virus in Sutter County in 2022. A mosquito sample recently collected in the Tierra Buena area has tested positive for the virus. We have had no detections of WNV in dead birds, sentinel chicken flocks or humans. Hot daytime temperatures have hastened mosquito production, with traps showing slightly higher than historically normal abundance of this WNV vector for this time of year. Public Service Announcement For Immediate Release June 24, 2022 The Sutter County Public Health Branch and the Sutter-Yuba Mosquito & Vector Control District are issuing this joint press release subsequent to a detection of an invasive Aedes aegypti mosquito found in Yuba City, Sutter County. Yuba City -The Sutter-Yuba Mosquito & Vector Control District (SYMVCD) has detected an Aedes aegypti mosquito in Yuba City in Sutter County, California. SWIMMING POOL CHECKS SET TO BEGIN Each season beginning in June and continuing through July, District staff makes a visit to each home where a photo from an aerial flyover indicates a suspect pool that may be breeding mosquitoes. A quick visual inspection will reveal whether a pool needs treatment. There are no penalties, charges or fees to inspect or treat a swimming pool or other backyard breeding source. No unrelated information about the property is collected. The swimming pool check is quick and easy. Our uniformed staff will always ask for permission before entering or inspecting a property.
